Kit Preview : 1/76 Cromwell Combat Ready Panther A Early

About the manufacturer
Cromwell now focuses on 1/76 and 1/72 Combat ready models which combine a reduced count of parts and a good level of detail. Older kit type models are still available, mostly on Ebay. I find Cromwell castings to be among the best on the market.

About the kit

This model represents an early model A with the hull MG slot and pistol ports on the turret. Cromwell also produce a late Panther A.

The zimmerit is particularly well done. The track assembly is 3mm short if you compare it to the Matchbox Panther G. The hull is a fraction smaller (1mm), which is acceptable. However the roadwheels are much too small. They don't even touch the tracks! They will be shave off fromthe one piece hull and replaced by ones from a derelict Matchbox Jagdpanther (like the orange wheel in photo #5). The wheel detail on the Cromwell wheels is more accurate with two rows of bolts and the central nub. Matchbox only have the nub and one row of bolts. I think the undersize wheel is more noticeable so will be replacing them. The hull hatches are open and all tool stowage seems to be there. My model had broken exhaust pipes.
