Kit Preview : 1/76 Cromwell M4A4 (Sherman V)

About the manufacturer
Cromwell now focuses on 1/76 and 1/72 Combat ready models which combine a reduced count of parts and a good level of detail. Older kit type models are still available, mostly on Ebay. I find Cromwell castings to be among the best on the market.

About the kit

This finely detailed Cromwell full build kit is derived from the Revell/Matchbox Firefly. the hoprizontal join line on the transmission is still faintly visible. The kit is derived but much improved. For instance, the bolts from the said transmission cover are conspicuously absent on the Firefly. The model also has fine strips with holes lining the lower hull. The main gun and mantlet are well done, the gun sporting a hole a t the end of the barrel. The hull MG is not provided. There are also 3 crew members, finely cast, but with very small heads. They won't go well next to AB figures.
In summary, a very good kit. I would say that Cromwell has somewhat regressed in quality when they moved to Ready Made models, not in casting but due to the compromises needed for such pieces.
